Mexican eggs banned from U.S. after price soars

After in recent months, the price of eggs in the United States increased by up to 60 percent compared to last year, the smuggling of this food from Mexico and Canada was not long in coming and seizures at border checkpoints have skyrocketed by more than 100 percent.

The price hike is the result of the new outbreak of bird flu and the lack of supplies, so currently a dozen eggs in US territory cost 11 dollars, the equivalent of 220 pesos.

Given the trafficking of the product through the border crossings with Mexico, US authorities have already given the warning and stressed that they cannot cross the border with so many eggs since doing so would be a crime and in addition to seizing the egg they will be liable to a fine of $ 10,000.

And, in Mexico, specifically in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua the average carton with 30 eggs is 80 pesos, much more accessible than in US territory, so the seizure of eggs and poultry increased from October to December 2022 by 108 percent.
